Introduction to melatonin:

After melatonin is synthesized and stored in the pineal body, sympathetic nerve excitation innervates pineal cells to release melatonin. The synthesis of melatonin in mammals is controlled by a nervous system pathway that roughly originates in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and projects directly or indirectly to the preganglionic sympathetic neurons in the first thoracic segment of the spinal cord. Melatonin can inhibit the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, reduce the contents of gonadotropin releasing hormone, gonadotropin, and can directly act on the gonads to reduce the contents of androgen, estrogen and progesterone. In addition, MT has strong neuroendocrine immunomodulatory activity and scavenging free radical antioxidant ability, and is eventually metabolized in the liver, and the damage of liver cells can affect the level of MT in the body
