Product Description
Willow bark extract mainly comes from the branches or bark of weeping willow. This kind of plant grows in the wetland near the water and is cultivated everywhere. It is mainly distributed in the Yangtze River Basin and all parts of South China. The main component of willow bark extract is salicin.
 

 

Chemical Composition
Phenolic glycosides and flavonoid glycosides are the main active components of the bark extract of white willow. The phenolic glycosides include salicin, salicoysalicin, populin, Fragilin, salicoysalicin and salireposide. Flavonoid glycosides include isorhamnotin and quercitrin.

 

 

Pharmacological Function
The main pharmacological effects of the extract of white willow bark are antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory. The active ingredients are phenolic glycosides and flavonoid glycosides, among which the most prominent component is salicin. Salicylate is hydrolyzed into Chemicalbook salicylic acid, which is a weak anti-inflammatory agent. It is converted into acetylsalicylic acid in the liver, which has enhanced anti-inflammatory effect and antipyretic and analgesic effect, but has no toxic effect on the stomach and intestines.

Main application
1. Treat fevers, colds and infections
As a "natural aspirin", salicin is used to treat minor fevers, colds, infections (influenza), acute and chronic rheumatic discomfort, headaches and pain due to inflammation. As its natural configuration, salicylate is harmlessly converted to salicylic acid in the blood and liver through the gastrointestinal system. The conversion process takes several hours, so the results are not immediately felt by the human body, but the general effect lasts for several hours.
2. Relieve arthritis pain and lower back pain
Salicin is thought to be the source of the anti-inflammatory and pain relieving ability of white willow bark. The pain-relieving properties of white willow bark usually take effect more slowly but last longer than those of regular aspirin products. Using high-dose white willow bark extract may also help relieve lower back pain. A four-week trial found that white willow bark extract containing 240mg of salicin could effectively reduce the deterioration of lower back pain.
