Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin Description:

Sodium copper chlorophyllin is a dark green powder that is extracted from natural green plant tissues, such as silkworm excrement, clover, alfalfa, bamboo, and other plant leaves, using organic solvents such as acetone, methanol, ethanol, and petroleum ether. Copper ions are used to replace the magnesium ions in the chlorophyll center, while alkali is used to saponify it. The carboxyl groups formed after removing methyl and phytol groups become disodium salts. Therefore, sodium copper chlorophyllin is a semi synthetic pigment.
